Species minus habitat equals extinction – Kangaroo IsIand’s Raptor Domain holds FAME day.
Adelaide 21 March 2018
Australia has one of the worst rates of extinction in the world. Yet, it also has the most diverse. The Foundation for Australia’s Most Endangered Species Ltd (FAME), is an Adelaide-based, national not-for-profit, and works tirelessly with a vision to stop the extinction of our precious flora and fauna. FAME has joined in partnership with Raptor Domain to raise awareness of the plight of our endangered species by holding a fundraising day.
Kangaroo Island’s Raptor Domain at Seal Bay are long-time supporters of FAME and to mark the 25th anniversary of the Foundation, have come up with their own way to contribute. Profits gained from visitors who come to see the Birds of Prey presentation shows at Raptor Domain on Saturday 21 April will be generously donated to FAME to assist in their amazing work.
Dave and Leeza Irwin from Raptor Domain are excited about the initiative. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our support to FAME, who do wonderful work in raising money and supporting conservation projects to save Australian endangered species. Conservation and education are priorities for us here at Raptor Domain. We have a takeaway that we pass on to our visitors; species minus habitat equals extinction. There is no coming back from extinction, a very sad but real possibility facing Australia’s many endangered species,” Leeza said.
FAME is no stranger to Kangaroo Island. The Foundation has had involvement in projects within the area over it’s 25-year history and has also just announced it will provide funding to survey and analyse population numbers of the Kangaroo Island Dunnart – another species on the verge of extinction.
“We were delighted in this wonderful initiative by Raptor Domain,” stated FAME CEO, Tracy McNamara “it is so important we raise awareness and stop any further extinction to ensure our children, their children and generations to come do not see Australian flora and fauna as a skeleton exhibition in a national museum.”
