SPECIES: Hybanthus cymulosus — Ninghan Violet
CLASSIFICATION: Critically endangered
Perhaps 500 mature Ninghan Violet plants still exist. It's a perennial plant and grows up to 1 metre high, with blue-purple flowers. Endemic to WA, they have been found to grow in scrubland, along drainage lines and in gullies across fragmented pastoral land locations. Unfortunatley it's a grazing favourite amongst the sheep and feral goats in the areas where the subpoplations are located, as is the threat of fire that is too frequent, burning young plants before they reach maturity.
