SPECIES: Darwinia whicherensis — Abba Bell
CLASSIFICATION: Endangered
Known from only three locations in the south-east of Western Australia is Abba Bell, usually a spreading shrub that grows in dense vegetation, making it a task in itself to actually locate individual plants. The flowers that grow appear to be 'nodding'. You know what we mean. Unlike many native plant species, Abba Bell is quite fire sensitive and can be killed by fire. The species is also susceptible to Phytophthora cinnamomi, and has been affected by land clearing, grazing and invasive weeds.
