SPECIES: Eulamprus kosciuskoi — Alpine Water Skink
CLASSIFICATION: Vulnerable
The Alpine Water Skink is a rare species of skink found at high altitudes in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. Alpine Skinks play a cruicial role in keeping the alpine ecosystems in balance - this particular species feeds mostly on insects and gives birth to live young. Under threat from feral animals (rats, cats and foxes), introduced weeds and bushfires (that deplete food sources and expose them further to predators).
