SPECIES: Banksia anatona — Cactus Dryandra

CLASSIFICATION: Critically endangered

This week we profile Cactus Dryandra - except it isn't a Cactus - it's a species of Banskia. Anyway...

This week we profile Cactus Dryandra, a tall spindly shrub with serrated, wedge-shaped leaves and hairy branches. A flower spike develops on the end of the main branch, made up of around 170 individual flowers(!!!) Endemic to WA and known from just one location, the remaining population is at risk of extinction from dieback disease caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi.
