SPECIES: Erythrotriorchis radiatus — Red Goshawk
CLASSIFICATION: Endangered
The endangered Red Goshawk may just be the rarest of the birds of prey native to Australia. As a quick refresher, characteristics of a bird of prey include a strong, hooked beak, strong feet with powerful talons and impeccable eyesight. Found in woodlands of northern Australia - particularly near watercourses - stealthily hunting their prey from a concealed tree perch. They prey mostly on birds but also occasionally on mammals, reptiles and large insects. Habitat loss and degradation are the biggest threats to the Red Goshawk.
