SPECIES: Hemiandra gardneri — Red Snakebush
CLASSIFICATION: Endangered
Over in Western Australia - severely fragmented, mind you - there are perhaps seven populations of Red Snakebush growing scattered, in deep sandplains and hills. This endangered native grows as a 'mat' up to 2m in diameter, has greyish foliage and produces gorgeous dark red-pink bell-shaped flowers. In recent times, the species has become endangered largely due to invasive species (weeds as well as rabbits) and more frequent fire regimes.
