SPECIES: Acacia denticulosa — Sandpaper Wattle

CLASSIFICATION: Vulnerable

Wattle certainly comes in many varieties. Today we profile Sandpaper Wattle, a spindly shrub found in just eight very scattered populations in the Wheatbelt in south-west Western Australia. They produce dense, curved, yellow flower spikes. The species generally grows on or near granite outcrops and occasionally on sandplains. Despite being a fast-growing plant and the ability to flower in the first year, Sandpaper Wattle still finds itself under threat largely from land clearing, drought and invasive weeds.
