SPECIES: Melanodryas cucullata cucullata — South-eastern Hooded Robin
CLASSIFICATION: Endangered
The Hooded Robin is a large, native Robin and is widespread across Australia. The South-eastern subspecies is found from Brisbane down to Adelaide and through much of NSW. Males are quite strikingly black and white - with a black hood and a white breast. The female is much duller. Their preferred habitat is open eucalypt woodland, acacia scrub or mallee. The species is under threat from habitat loss and degradation due to clearing and drought.
