SPECIES: Pteropus conspicillatus — Spectacled Flying-fox

CLASSIFICATION: Endangered

Did you know, the Spectacled Flying-fox has a natural lifespan of up to 17 years. Did you know, a female Spectacled Flying-fox is capable of giving birth to one pup annually from the age of one. Did you know, the Spectacled Flying-fox plays a vital role in the ecosystem by dispersing both seed and pollen as they forage and feed on fruits and blossom within canopy vegetation. Did you know, now restricted to tropical rainforest areas in north-eastern Queensland, the Spectacled Flying-fox has experienced a significant decline in population numbers in recent times. The species faces numerous threats including habitat loss, competition from other species, changes in environment and cyclones to name a few.
