SPECIES: Dasyornis longirostris — Western Bristlebird
CLASSIFICATION: Endangered
The endangered Western Bristlebird is a shy, elusive and seldom seen songbird that mostly forages on the ground, probing leaf-litter or gleaning plant foliage. Now finding itself restricted to a coastal strip of southern WA, the Western Bristlebird occurs across six sub-populations with probably no more than 1000 birds remaining.
Fire, land clearing and grazing are the most significant threats facing the future of the species.
