SPECIES: Pseudophryne covacevichae — Magnificent Brood Frog
CLASSIFICATION: Vulnerable
The Magnificent Brood Frog finds itself listed nationally as Vulnerable, however elevated internationally to an Endangered species.
The species is a small frog, only around 30mm in length, dark with bright orange or even yellow patches on its head. Underneath, it's strikingly marbled black and white.
The Magnificent Brood Frog is endemic to Queensland and unfortunately now is restricted to specific habitats. Habitat loss and degradation - from grazing, logging, roadwork, clearing and development as well as Chytridiomycosis - the fungal diseas affecting amphibians worldwide - are its biggest threats.
