FAME established a colony of endangered Boodies (Burrowing Bettongs - previously extinct in South Australia) at Yookamurra Sanctuary.
Burrowing Bettong
The Project
The feral free area at Yookamurra Sanctuary is the third largest fox and cat proof animal sanctuary in Australia and contains some of the oldest intact old growth malee left in Australia, some individual trees are over 200 years old. This environment has proven to be an ideal habitat to help re-establish and increase the numbers of Burrowing Bettongs. Secure colonies such as the one at Yookamurra make future releases of Burrowing Bettongs into its former home range across Australia a real possibility.
